Even better than City of Ashes, City of Glass had me setting everything aside so that I could read. I was on pins and needles, waiting to see what would become of the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders, and when Clary and Jace would realize that their relationship wasn't what they thought. I had a lot figured out, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the reactions of the characters as certain things were revealed. To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?
I was so happy that the Shadowhunters and Downworlders formed an alliance. Clary's growth amazed me. She went from a know-nothing Mundane to someone capable of defeating Valentine. And Jace... oh, Jace. His inner torment over his feelings for Clary was delicious. He has some of the most swoon-worthy lines in this book, and I loved it, just as I loved getting to see Alec, Isabelle, and Simon grow and mature throughout the series.
I'm actually surprised that this 'trilogy' has been turned into a series of six books, though I guess I shouldn't be, given the success of the series so far. I have to say that I thought the ending of City of Glass was perfect, though, with everything wrapped up nicely. Even so, I'm going to have to read the next three books when they come out.
4.5/5
Also in the series: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Fallen Angels (2011), City of Lost Souls (2012), City of Heavenly Fire (2013)

Yes, this book was AWESOME! I loved it so much! Jace was wonderful and he did have some great lines that made me melt! Cassie Clare did a good job of wrapping everything up. CoFA actually takes place two months after CoG, I believe... and I believe there will be new characters. So it should be interesting.
Aren't you glad I convinced you to try these again? ;)
Yeah, I read that CoFA takes place two months later. As for new characters, that doesn't interest me as much. I like the established characters just fine... I just think the series should have ended after City of Glass.
And, yes, I'm glad I read them. ;)
