Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Let me start off by saying that I LOVED this book! I had no expectations going in, but hoped for a good, entertaining read. I was not disappointed. Cynthia Hand has written an exceptional story.
I loved Clara, Christian, and Tucker. They seemed so real, so likeable. Ms Hand allowed their relationships with each other to develop over time, as real relationships do. That in itself was a breath of fresh air. I love that I initially didn't know whether or not to like Tucker. I didn't know if he'd get in the way of Clara and Christian, or if he'd end up being the love interest. Clara's two friends, Wendy and Angela, were so very likeable as well. I simply adored everyone in this book.
The story was well-paced and very well-written; it was so easy and fun to read. Details about Clara's purpose were given a bit at a time, and I loved the mystery of it. I loved that Clara was so realistic. She had struggles, and like any teenager, she wanted a normal life, all the while knowing that she had a greater purpose to fulfill.
I was sucked in to the story immediately, and couldn't put the book down. And, wow, was there a big twist! I CAN'T WAIT for the next one to be released!
5/5

Gah! I'm so jealous you've already read and LOVED this book. It has been sitting on my bookcase since it released, and I just haven't gotten around to it. I need to stop picking up new books from the library, etc and just read what I have... I can't help myself.
Read it now!! :)
